3 Hadith proofs why having a crush is not haram
C.J Ahmed-05.03.2023
Having a crush is not haram in Islam. Having a crush is nothing but having a feeling towards someone. The oxford dictionary defines having a crush as follows,
"A strong feeling of love, which usually does not last very long, that a young person has for another person, often older; the person who is the object of this feeling."
And Webster dictionary defines having crush as follows,
"A strong but often short-lived liking for another person"
Nowadays men, women, boys and girls fall in love emotionally with their favorite movie stars or just by looking or talking to some stranger. This is a natural thing and it is completely halal in Islam. Below are the Hadith proofs that having a crush is not haram in Islam.
1. Having any kind of feelings is completely halal in Islam
The prophet (Sal) said,
"Allah has forgiven my Ummah for whatever crosses their mind so long as they do not speak of it or act upon it.”
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Ibn Abbas (Rali) narrated that the Prophet (Sal) said, relating from his Lord, may He be glorified and exalted: “Allah decreed good deeds and bad deeds, then He explained that. Whoever thinks of doing a good deed then does not do it, Allah will write it down as one complete good deed. If he thinks of doing a good deed and then does it, Allah (May He be glorified and exalted) will write it down between ten and seven hundred fold, or many more. If he thinks of doing a bad deed then he does not do it, Allah will write it down as one complete good deed, and if he thinks of it then does it, Allah will write it down as one bad deed.”
(Sahih Al Bukhari and Muslim)
2. Even the Sahaba had a crush
There is hadith evidence proving that even the companions of the prophet (sal) had a crush towards a beautiful girl who used to visit the mosque.
"A beautiful woman, from among the most beautiful of women, used to pray behind the Prophet. Some of the people used to go to pray in the first row to ensure they would not be able to see her. Others would pray in the last row of the men, and they would look from underneath their armpits [in rukoo’ and sujood] to see her. Because of this act, in regard to her, Allah revealed,
“Verily we know the eager among you to be first, and verily we know the eager among you to be behind.” (Qur’an 15: 24)"
(Ibn Majah, Abu Dawud, Tayalisi, Baihaqi, Ahmad, Tirmidhi, and Nasai and it is judged sahih by Albani. He includes it as no-2472 in his Silsilat al-Ahadith as-Sahih)
3. Even touching the opposite sex is not haram in Islam.
The below hadith proves this.
Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
A slave-girl of Al-Madinah would take hold of the hand of the Prophet (Sal) and take him wherever she desired. (Bukhari)
From the above hadith evidence, it is quite clear that having a crush is not haram in Islam.
