Top Reasons Why Sex Toys and Sex Dolls Are Halal
16/01/2020
In this website I have earlier published many valuable articles on about sex and masturbation to help many people open up and open minded speak on topics which society perceives as taboo or extreme.
Just like other controversial topics such as masturbation, oral sex etc, using sex toys or sex dolls to pleasure oneself has brought upon frowned fatwas and ludicrous opinions rather than bringing concrete evidence to prove it. I have earlier published an article on why masturbation is halal which is in this link cjislam.weebly.com/why-masturbation-is-not-haram.html and just like masturbation, I am hoping to prove inshaAllah that using sex toys, dolls or robots is not haram in Islam. So,read along. If you ask any Muslim whether he or she is knowledgeable or not in Islam whether you can use sex toys or sex dolls for pleasure, their eyeballs will roll out either with anger, disgust or disapproval and give the most famous word that is familiar among almost all Muslims "Haram" . Now, if you ask them why they think that it is haram, they will answer that Allah forbids Muslims to seek sexual pleasure other than one's wife. The argument taken from the misunderstood opinion that masturbation is haram in Islam and that using sex toys aids you in the sin called masturbation hence, it is haram. Now let me explain the top reasons why using sex toys, dolls or robots is halal in Islam
Top Reason-1-It Is Because Masturbation Is Halal In Islam
One of the main reasons why Most Muslims despise using sex toys or dolls or any other new invention relating to self pleasure is because that they think that it is a form of masturbation and it is haram. To answer this, I would like to clearly mention that Islam has never forbidden masturbation. The issue of masturbation as been quite a controversial as well as a misunderstood topic by many Muslims. Due to their ignorance as well as their cultural upbringing , many Muslims have started to shun masturbation as a wrong and sinful act in Islam. There have been various fatwas by scholars of the Aqeedat-us-Salafiyyah who have mistakenly given their wording stating that masturbation is haram. All of these arguments are based on one Quranic verse which has nothing to do with masturbation. Now, lets look at what the verse says,
"And those who guard their chastity. Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, - for them, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." (Al Quran-23:5-7 )
The above mentioned verse only talks about sexual relations between persons other than your wives and slaves
and masturbation is only a thing that you engage with your self.
Many including imam Shafi have tried to derive a meaning as if masturbation is haram. When you look clearly,
there is no mention of the word masturbation being forbidden. the word" But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." as being taken out of context and interpreted to mean that the masturbator is a transgressor as he is seeking something beyond what his right hand possesses. This verse only means about homosexuality and fornication. and Allah(Swt) and his Rasool (Sal) have clearly explained in the Quran and Sunnah of what is sexual transgression. and sexual transgression is adultery, fornication, homosexuality because these are what that have being clearly being forbidden in the Quran and the Sunnah. Ibn kathir in his authentic tafseer gives the meaning to the following verse as follows:
"means, those who protect their private parts from unlawful actions and do not do that which Allah has forbidden; fornication and homosexuality, and do not approach anyone except the wives whom Allah has made permissible for them or their right hand possessions from the captives. One who seeks what Allah has made permissible for him is not to be blamed and there is no sin on him".
Ibn Kathir himself says clearly that one who seeks what Allah(swt) has made permissible for him is not to be blamed and there is no sin on him. The above mentioned ayah has nothing to do with masturbation and there is no evidence whatsoever from the Quran or any authentic hadith forbidding masturbation. Now, there is an opinion that sex toys are permissible only to a married couple and not for an individual. This argument also stems from the same false belief that masturbation is haram except for spouses and I hope that the above answer will completely debunk this false notion as well.
Top Reason-2-It Is Because Silence Is A Mercy From Allah
This is the next big reason why sex toys and dolls are halal in Islam. There is no clear, direct evidence to prove anywhere in the Quran or authentic hadiths that using sex toys, dolls or similar sex and masturbation aids are haram. In a nutshell,Islam is silent on this matter and silence is a mercy from Allah(Swt). If Allah(swt) and his messenger(sal) has not sanctioned something in Islam, then no one has the right to make it forbidden according to their opinions. Islam is a very easy religion and Allah(swt) with his mercy has not sanctioned masturbation has it would be a burden to mankind and so is using sex toys and dolls. According to the shariah if there is silence from the Quran and the Sunnah, it falls as something that is permitted which is known as 'Jaiz' meaning allowed. The below hadith explains this follows:
"The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan Sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122).
The above hadith is clear evidence that we are forbidden from investigating from things which has come as a mercy from Allah(swt) by he being silent. Masturbation sex using sex toys, dolls or anything similar falls in to the things in which Islam is silent. Some might argue that sex toys, sex dolls or robots are new inventions that did not exist during the time of the prophet(Sal) and his companions but this argument is not at all true because German scientists were able to find a dildo which was between 28-30,000 years old. There are ancient Greek vases depicting the dildo dating 490 BC. All of these prove beyond doubt that even before the prophet(Sal), sex toys were used and even in such a scenario, the prophet(Sal) was silent on it and this is a big validation that sex toys, dolls or any other sex aid is halal in Islam.
Top Reason-3-It Is Because Photography and incomplete animate objects are completely halal in Islam
There is another main reason found among the general Muslim populace in the world is that suing sex toys, aids or machines is haram because you are altering the creation of Allah by trying to create something similar. In other words, what is believed is that sculpturing or photography of animate objects such as humans or animals is haram and that itself makes sex toys haram by default. This argument is based on several hadiths which are misrepresented. The argument of making photography is based on the hadiths prohibiting of making images of living souls and below are some of the hadiths.,
The prophet (Sal) said:
"Those who will be most severely punished by Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers."
(Sahih Al Bukhari)
The prophet (Sal) said in a hadith Qudsi (hadith where Allah says):
'Who does more wrong than the one who tries to create something like My creation? Let him create a grain of wheat or a kernel of corn.'"
(Sahih Al Bukhari)
'
Ali (Rali) said:
"Shall I not send you on the same mission as the Messenger of Allaah (Sal) sent me? Do not leave any built-up tomb without levelling it, and do not leave any picture in any house without erasing it."
(Sahih Muslim and Nasai)
Ibn Abbas (Rali) Narrated that the prophet (Sal) said:
"Every image-maker will be in the Fire, and for every image that he made a soul will be created for him, which will be punished in the Fire.
Ibn 'Abbas said: "If you must do that, make pictures of trees and other inanimate objects."
(Sahih Muslim)
The Prophet (Sal) said:
"The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or pictures."
(Sahih Al Bukhari)
These are some of the many narrations mentioning the prohibition of making the pictures of living souls. Now this same argument is used to view photography and video making as also the same as making animate objects hence it’s thought as haram. I have published a complete article proving why photography or video is not haram and you can find my article by clicking here https://cjislam.weebly.com/taking-selfie-or-photo-or-video-is-not-haram.html . Before answering this argument, let me make it clear that the animate objects that do not have a head or face or is deformed is not an animate object. Even if we agree for the sake of argument that using sex toys is haram because it represents images of animate objects, this arguments does not hold water because the image or object of an animate being with out a head is not an image according to Islam. This is based on the following hadiths.
Al-Ismaa’eeli narrated in his Mu’jam from Ibn Abbas (Rali) that the Prophet (Sal) said:
“The image is the head; if the head is cut off then there is no image.”
(Classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami)
Abu Hurayrah (Rali) said: Jibreel (peace be upon him) asked permission to enter upon the Prophet (Sal) and he said, “Come in.” He said: How can I come in when in your house there is a curtain on which there are images? Either cut off their heads or make it a rug that is stepped on, for we angels do not enter a house in which there are images.
(An Nasai-authenticated by Albani in Sahih An Nasai)
Based on these two hadiths, dildos, artificial vaginas or any other sex toy represents only mainly the sex organs of a male or female and comes under the category of the image which has no head and that by default makes all sex toys halal to use. Now, someone might ask whether sex dolls and sex robots are halal to be kept if they have full bodies with heads, Yes they are totally halal as it is authentically proven from hadiths that images of animate beings can be used for embroidery, rugs, cushions and even some instances as curtains. If someone asks "are sex dolls halal? answer them saying that it is 100% halal.
Aisha (Rali) narrated:
"The Prophet (Sal) set out for an expedition. I took a carpet and screened the door with it. When he (Prophet (Sal)) came back, he saw that carpet and I perceived signs of disapproval on his face. He pulled it until it was torn or it was cut (into pieces) And he said: God has not commanded us to clothe stones and clay. We cut it (the curtain) and prepared two pillows out of it by stuffing them with the fibre of date-palms and he (Prophet (Sal)) did not find fault with it.
(Sahih Muslim)
Aisha (Rali) narrated:
"I bought a cushion with Sooras (Animate Images) on it. When Allah’s Messenger (Sal) saw it, he kept standing at the door and did not enter the house. I noticed the sign of disgust on his face, so I said, “O Allah’s Messenger! I repent to Allah and to His Messenger. (Please let me know) what sin I have done.” He (Sal) said, “What about this cushion?” I replied, “I bought it for you to sit and recline on.” Allah’s Messenger (Sal) said, “The makers of these suras will be punished on the Day of Resurrection.
It will be said to them, ‘Breathe life into what you have created.’” He (Sal) added, “Angels do not enter a house where there are suras. I took it and turned it into two pillows on which he used to recline at home.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Ubaydullah Ibn `Abdullah who narrated that he went to Abu Talhah Al-Ansary to visit him during his illness and found Sahl Ibn Hunayf with him. Abu Talhah asked someone to remove a rug on the floor. Sahl asked:
"Why do you (want to) remove it? He replied: Because it includes suras and I know what the Messenger of Allah (Sal) said about them (suras – i.e. the ruling on them). He said: Did he not say: “Except a design in a cloth”. He said, “Yes, but this is more comfortable for me.”
(Narrated in Musnad Ahmed, Nasai, Tirmidhi-Imam Tirmidhi graded it as Hasan Sahih)
A'isha (Rali) narrated:
"We had a curtain with us which had portraits of birds upon it. Whenever a visitor came, he found them in front of him.
Thereupon Allah's Messenger (Sal) said to me: Change them, for whenever I enter the room) I see them and it brings to my mind (the pleasures) of worldly life. She said: We had with us a sheet which had silk badges upon it and we used to wear it. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Muthanna but with this addition: 'Allah's Messenger (Sal) did not command us to tear that."
(Sahih Muslim)
Using the sex doll, robot or any other life size animate figure is halal because you are using it for a purpose and after using it, you can simply cover them or put them inside a box.
Can A Muslim Sell Sex Toys,Dolls Robots etc For A Living?
In Islam, there is no such thing as halal sex toys. All sex toys are halal in Islam. I have proven above that using sex toys or full size dolls, robots or any other sex/masturbation aid is halal in Islam and there is nothing wrong in selling something halal. According to a Forbes magazine article dated,July 15th, 2016, it was revealed that the sex toy industry is worth 15 Billion dollars and if you happen to come from a country where there is tolerance for such a market, it could be a jackpot for many Muslims who are struggling to find ends meet. Allah(Swt) opens many doors and the sex toy industry is definitely an amazing way to make a huge income. Now, ask yourself sincerely, "are sex dolls haram? and you will be surprised how liberated you will feel.
