Why a Muslim can listen to the Quran while doing other things
C.J Ahmed-11.04.2023
There is nothing haram in listening to the recitation of the Quran or reciting it yourself while doing other things. There is evidence from the hadiths where the prophetsal) used to recite the Quran on the lap of Aiah (rali) while she was menstruating.
Aisha (rali) narrated,
“The prophet (sal) would recline on my lap while I was menstruating and recite the Quran.”(Bukhari and Muslim)
Islam is silent on the issue of listening to the Quran while doing other things and silence is from the mercy of Allah (swt).,The Prophet (sal) said,
“Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.” (Hasan Sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122)
Islam is a very easy religion and extremism has no place in Islam. The prophet (Sal) said,
“None makes the religion difficult except that it overcomes him. So, aim for what is right, stick to the moderate way"
(Bukhari)
Narrated by Ibn Masud (Rali),
The prophet (Sal) said,
"Beware! The extremists perished," saying it three times."
(Abu Dawud-Graded Sahih by Albani)
Islam always encourages its followers to make things easy.
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Whoever is kind, affable, and easy-going, Allah will forbid him from entering Hellfire.” (al-Sunan al-Kubrá lil-Bayhaqī 20806-Graded authentic by Sheikh Albani)
Abdullah ibn Mughaffal reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah is gentle and he loves gentleness. He gives for it what is not given for harshness.”(Abu-Dawud- Grded Sahih by Albani)
Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Teach others, make things easy, and do not make things difficult. When one of you is angry, he should remain silent.” (Musnad Ahmed- Graded Sahih by Ahmed Shakir)
Ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Shall I not tell you of one forbidden for Hellfire or Hellfire is forbidden for him? It is everyone accessible, polite, and easy-going.”(Tirmidhi-Graded Sahih by Imam Tirmidhi and Sheikh Albani)
Take things easy and make things easy because Islam is very easy and there is nothing haram in doing other things while listening or reciting the Quran.
