2 Sure Proofs Why Touching Buttocks Won’t Break Wudu
C.J Ahmed-10.04.2023
Touching the buttocks will not break your wudu due to the fact that no evidence exits from the Quran or authentic hadiths stating so. silence is a mercy fro Allah(Swt). The Prophet (sal) said,
“Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.” (Hasan Sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122)
Even touching the penis or vagina while in the state of ablution will not break your wudu .Touching your private parts accidentally or deliberately won’t break your wudu and the below hadith clearly proves this,
Narrated Talq bin ‘Ali (rali):
A man said: “I touched my penis” or he said, “Does a man who touch his penis during the prayer should perform Wudu (ablution)?” The Prophet (sal) replied, “No, it is only a part of your body”. (Bulugh al Maram and reported by Al-Khamsa-Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic)).
Some try to argue that this hadith is abrogated but there is no valid proof from the authentic hadiths which states that the prophet (sal) abrogated it.
Narrated Talq:
“We came upon the Prophet of Allah (sal). A man came to him: he seemed to be a bedouin. He said: Prophet of Allah, what do you think about a man who touches his penis after performing ablution? He (sal) replied: That is only a part of his body.(Abu-Dawud-Graded Sahih by Albani)
Ibn Qudamah said the folloing as his opinion with regards to touching the buttocks,
“Wudu is not invalidated by touching anything on the entire body other than the private parts, such as the area surrounding the private part or anus, and the testicles, according to the majority of scholars, because there is no text to suggest that and they do not come under the same heading as that which is mentioned in the text, so the ruling cannot apply to them.” (Al-Mughni, 1/119)
Imam Nawawi said also the following as for touching the buttocks while in ablution,
“Our companions said: What is meant by the backside is the point of exit (the anus); as for anything other than that, between the buttocks, it does not invalidate wudu and there is no difference of scholarly opinion on that point.” (al-Majmu‘ (2/42))
Imam Shafi gave his opinion stating, “If he touches his testicles or buttocks or knees, but he does not touch his penis, then he does not have to do wudu.”(al-Umm (1/34)).
The above opinions of scholars are not a basis in Islam but still they themselves hve given their opinions that touching the buttocks will not break wudu. The opinion that touching the penis will break the wudu is also a vie based on certain hadiths but the best and most pragmatic view is that touching the private parts will not require ablution.
