Why Playing with Shadows is Not Haram in Islam
C.J Ahmed-08.04.2023
Playing with shadows by mean of making shadow puppets is not haram in the religion of Islam because Islam is silent on it and silence is from the mercyof Allah. "The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan Sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and also Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122)
Ther is mntion of shadows in various authentic hadiths invarious context and below are some of them,
Narrated AbuHurayrah:
AbulQasim (sal) said: When one of you is in the sun (Shams)--Makhlad's version has "fay'"--and the shadow withdraws from him so that he is partly in sun and partly in shade, he should get up. (Abu-Dawud-Graded Sahih by Albani)
'A'isha, the wife of the Apostle (sal), said that the Messenger of Allah (sal) said the afternoon prayer (at the time) when the sun shone in her apartment and its shadow did not extend beyond her apartment.(Sahih Muslim)
One so called “scholar” Ibrahim Desai had given his personal fatwa without a siver of evidence stating that playing with shadows is haram and he said,
“Playing with ones shadow is a futile act and prohibited” (https://islamqa.org/hanafi/askimam/10912/are-making-shadow-puppets-are-prohibited/)
First of all I would like to ask from this so called scholar how playing with shadows is haram?. This is what happens when people start giving thir personal opinions rather than sticking to the Quran and the authentic hadiths. There is no evidence to prove that plaing with shadows is haram in Islam.
