Did Imam Hussain Wear Earrings? 2 Shia Hadith Sources
C.J Ahmed-21.04.2023
Hussain (rali) is the grandson of the messenger of Allah (sal) and there is no authentic hadith proofs to prove from Sunni sources that he wore earrings but Shia surces mention a different view on this. Let me first explain the Sunni or the Ahlussunnah wal Jamah stance on men wearing earrings.
Sunni Stance
The argument that Islam forbids from men wearing earrings is only based on reasoning from the bove discussed hadiths and not from direct evidenece. Islam is completely silent on whether men can wear earrings and silece is from the mercy of Allah.
The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122 a nd also graded Sahih by Sheikh Albani)
Shia Sources
According to the most authentic hadith book accepted by the Shia, Hussain (rali) was pierced along with his brother Hasan (rali).
Narrated by Hussein ibn Khalid: I asked Imam Reza (as): “When is it time to be happy for the sake of the child? Imam Reza said: "When Hassan ibn Ali was born, Jibraeel landed on the seventh day to congratulate to the Prophet (sal) and ordered him to make a name for him, and he cuts off his hair, and he makes Aqiqah for him, and he pierces his ear. It was the same for the birth of Hussein . [Jibraeel (as)] landed on the seventh day with the Prophet (sal) and commanded him to do the same. [Hasan and Hussein (as)] in left side (center) of front of their head had a bunch of hair (Zulf) They had a hole in their soft parts of right ear and a hole in their left ear. So the earrings, which the Arabs call "Qurt", were in the right ear, and the earrings, which were called "Shanf", were in their left ear.”(Kuleyni , Kitab-al-Kafi –Vol-11 , Page-408)
In this hadith, piercing the ears has been mentioned there is a difference of opinion on whether the pircing was symbolic or was specifically done to put earrings but there is no clear evidence from authritatve Shia sources to prove that men cannot wear earrings.
Abdullah Ibn Saba was a Yemenite Jew who faounded the Sabaiya movement which is named after him. His devotion to Ali Ibn Abu Talib (rali) led him to invent a new form of Islam and laid most of the foundational beliefs of modern day Shiaism.
The Shia, Rawafid,Itna Ashari or the many other names they have been known is a deviated sect that was founded by the Jewish hypocrite, Abdullah Ibn Saba. The Shia openly insult the companions of the prophet (Sal) and do Bidah,Shirk and Kufr. Both the Shia and Sunni historians agree that it was ibn Saba who invented this deviated ideology known as Shaism. Here is the evidence from five authoritative Shia sources confirming that it was Abdullah Ibn Sabah who started the Shia ideology.
Abu Muhammad al-Hasan bin Moosaa al-Naubakhti was a Shia scholar from the third century and the other Shia scholar was Sa'd bin Abd Allaah bin Abee Khalaf al-Ash'ari al-Qummee and both theses scholars wrote clearly who Abdullah Ibn Saba was. Here is what they said regarding him. You can ear more by clicking the links below,
