Why Listening to Quran While Doing Other Things is Not Haram
C.J Ahmed-10.04.2023
Listening to Quran which is playing in a recording or if a real person is reciting the Quran while doing other activities is not haram because there is no evidence to substantiate that it is prohibited to do so. There is evidence from the hadiths where the prophetsal) used to recite the Quran on the lap of Aiah (rali) while she was menstruating.
Aisha (rali) narrated,
“The prophet (sal) would recline on my lap while I was menstruating and recite the Quran.”(Bukhari and Muslim)
Islam is a very easy religion and extremism has no place in Islam. The prophet (Sal) said,
“None makes the religion difficult except that it overcomes him. So, aim for what is right, stick to the moderate way"
(Bukhari)
Narrated by Ibn Masud (Rali),
The prophet (Sal) said,
"Beware! The extremists perished," saying it three times."
(Abu Dawud-Graded Sahih by Albani)
Islam also encourages its followers to make things easy among themselves and others. The below hadiths attests t,
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Whoever is kind, affable, and easy-going, Allah will forbid him from entering Hellfire.” (al-Sunan al-Kubrá lil-Bayhaqī 20806-Graded authentic by Sheikh Albani)
Abdullah ibn Mughaffal reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah is gentle and he loves gentleness. He gives for it what is not given for harshness.”(Abu-Dawud- Grded Sahih by Albani)
Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Teach others, make things easy, and do not make things difficult. When one of you is angry, he should remain silent.” (Musnad Ahmed- Graded Sahih by Ahmed Shakir)
Ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Shall I not tell you of one forbidden for Hellfire or Hellfire is forbidden for him? It is everyone accessible, polite, and easy-going.”(Tirmidhi-Graded Sahih by Imam Tirmidhi and Sheikh Albani)
