Is Ear Piercing Haram or Halal in Islam?
C.J Ahmed-18.05.2023
Ear piercing for both men and women isnot haram in Islam. It is the attitude among some Muslims that have given an impression that ear piercing is haram. I the person is consenting to ear piercing without force a seen in some barbaric cultures, ear piercing is not a sin.
Circumcision is Okay, but Ear Piercing is Not Okay!
Salih al Munajjid, the founder of Islamqa.info said the following with regards to piercing the ears of a little boy,
“Although it is established that it is permissible to pierce the ears of a little girl or an adult woman because there is a need for that, it is not permissible to pierce the ears of a boy or a man, because that comes under the heading of inflicting pain needlessly, and because it comes under the heading of imitating women.” (https://islamqa.info/en/answers/175847/piercing-a-boys-ear-if-this-practice-is-widespread-in-some-countries)
Th hypocrisy is evident from this individual who is a Kawarij Qutbi and according to him piercing a little boy is not allowed because it can cause pain but fr a little gilr, it is kay to inflict pain because it is a need. Circumcision which is a barbaric an inhuma and filthy practice which has no evidence in Islam is okay to be inflictd on littleboys and girls without their consent, but ear piercing is wron g for a little boy because it is painful to the child. This shows the mentality of such individuals and I don’t won’t to clash with Mun ajjid because may Allah guide him and bless him for his sincere efforts in providing authentic evidence but his extremis side is very apparent in his views and his selective views on ear piercing and circumcision is apparent in such statements of his. As for circumcision, I have written a detailed article proving whiy it has no basis in Islam an you an read he full article by cliking here https://cjislam.weebly.com/why-circumcision-is-un-islamic-6-shocking-proofs.html
There is no difference of opinion among scholars when it comes to women wearing earring but for men, it is sparked with controversy.
Cannot Judge Men Based What They Wear
Some might argue that men who wear earrings are effeminate men and this is not true because even masculi ne men wear earrings. We cannot tear open a man’s chest and see his intentions.
Usamah ibn Zayd reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent us on an expedition. In the morning we attacked Al-Huraqat of Juhaynah. I caught hold of a man and he said, “There is no God but Allah!” I stabbed him anyway. Then, it occurred to me that I should mention that to the Prophet. The Prophet said, “Did he say ‘there is no God but Allah’ but you killed him?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, he only said it because he feared the weapon!” The Prophet said, “Did you tear open his heart to know if he meant it or not?” The Prophet continued repeating it to me until I had wished I had not embraced Islam until that day. (Sahih Muslim)
In certain African and India ann tribes, men wear earrings and it is accepted in that culture and the rgument that earrings are only for women is a false argument which has no basis in Islam.
Islam is Silent on Men Wearing Earrings
The argument that Islam forbids from men wearing earrings is only based on reasoning from the bove discussed hadiths and not from direct evidenece. Islam is completely silent on whether men can wear earrings and silece is from the mercy of Allah.
The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122 and also graded Sahih by Sheikh Albani)
