Is Nose Piercing Haram or Halal For Women?
C.J Ahmed-20.05.2023
Nose piercings are not haram for women because it is a form of jewellery that is popular among women in sme parts of the world. Even gold is not forbidden for women.
Ali (rali) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (sal) taking silk in his right hand and gold in his left hand and then he said: "These two are forbidden for the males of my Ummah." Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''Wearing silk and gold is forbidden for the males of my Ummah and is allowed for their females.''(Sunan Ibn Majah – Graded Sahih by Ibn Majah)
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari:
That the Messenger of Allah (sal) said: "Wearing silk and gold has made unlawful for the males of my Ummah and lawful for its females” (Tirmidhi-Graded Hasan Sahih by Imam Tirmidhi)
Some might argue that men or women who wear nose rings are effeminate or imitating the opposite sex or kuffar and this is not true because even masculine men for an example wear earrings. We cannot tear open a man’s chest and see his intentions.
Usamah ibn Zayd reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent us on an expedition. In the morning we attacked Al-Huraqat of Juhaynah. I caught hold of a man and he said, “There is no God but Allah!” I stabbed him anyway. Then, it occurred to me that I should mention that to the Prophet. The Prophet said, “Did he say ‘there is no God but Allah’ but you killed him?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, he only said it because he feared the weapon!” The Prophet said, “Did you tear open his heart to know if he meant it or not?” The Prophet continued repeating it to me until I had wished I had not embraced Islam until that day. (Sahih Muslim)
In certain African and Indiaan tribes, men wear earrings and women nose rings and it is accepted in that culture and the argument that nose rings are only for women is a false argument which has no basis in Islam.
Nowadays men and women wear the same dress in parts of the world. Take for an example in Cambodia and Indonesia, men and women both wear the traditional sarong and when it comes to wearing jewellery, both men and women wear rings and even watches The word “imitating” is subjective and trying to put one’s own opinion is dangerous when there is clear evidence from the Sunnah to prove that it is halal. There is no doubt that wearing makeup is not haram for men and not all men put on makeup to resemble women and trying to prohibit something based on a scholar’s personal opinion cannot be accepted.
