3 Islamic Proofs Why Eating Raw Steak is Halal in Islam
C.J Ahmed-02.04.2023
Steak is a kind of meat generally sliced from beef and is thick in diameter. Steak can be cooked in many ways and is very popular in some parts of the world. Steak is normally grilled or fried. There is nothing haram in eating raw steak eating raw meat wheher it is beef, mutton, chicken etc is halal in Islam based on the evidence from the Quran and the authentic hadiths. Below are the three proofs for this,
1. Allah says in the Quran,
“He only prohibits for you the eating of animals that die of themselves, blood, the meat of pigs, and animals dedicated to other than God. If one is forced (to eat these), without being malicious or deliberate, he incurs no sin. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.” (2:173)
And further he says,
2. “Today, all good food is made lawful for you. The food of the people of the scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them” (5:5)
The above two verses in the Quran mentions cleary that the meat of dead animals and pigs is only haram and if eating raw meat ws haram it would have been included in this verse or in other verses.
3. Silence is from the mercy of Allah (swt)
Islam is clearly silent on eating raw meat and nothing has been authentically narrated of the prophet (sal) prohibiting it. This silence in Islam falls under the category of “Jaiz” which means allowed and permissible.
The below hadith explains this follows:
"The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan Sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and also Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122).
The above hadith is clear on why eating raw steak is halal and why we are forbidden from investigating from things which has come as a mercy from Allah (swt) by him being silent. The above proofs are sufficient to prove that eating steak is not haram in Islam. If you ae doubtful that the meat f the steak can be haram, you can simply mention Allah’s name and eat it. It is that simple.
Aisha (rali) narrated, “A group of people said to the Prophet(sal),
“Some people bring us meat and we do not know whether they mentioned Allah’s name or not upon it (i.e. when slaughtering it)?” So he (sal) replied, “Mention Allah’s name on it and eat.” The people who were being referred to had embraced Islam recently,” (Al-Bukhari)
