Why Husband and Wife Can Bath Together in Islam with 3 Proofs
C.J Ahmed-12.04.2023
A husband and wife can bath together and Islam does not forbid doing so. Infact it is a Sunnah to bath together as the prophet (sal) too used to bath with his wife.
Proof-1-Narrated by Aishah(rali) :
“I and the Messenger of Allaah (sal ) took a bath from one vessel while we were sexually defiled.”(Abu Dawud-Graded Sahih by Albani)
Proof-2- A'isha reported:
The Messenger of Allah (sal) took a bath from the of water And I and he (the Holy Prophet) took a bath from the same vessel. And in the hadith narrated by Sufyan the words are:" from one vessel". Qutaiba said: Al-Faraq is three Sa' (a cubic measuring of varying magnitude). (Sahih Muslim)
Proof-3-Ashab As-Sunan (compilers of the prophet’s sayings) reported that one of the wives of the Prophet (sal) took bath from a vessel, then came the Prophet (sal) and when he wanted to take bath from that (vessel), she said, “I was sexually impure”. He said, “Water does not become sexually impure”(Tirmidhi and graded Sahih by Ibn Huzaima)
Proof-4- 'Aisha reported:
“I and the Messenger of Allah (sal) took a bath from one vessel which was placed between me and him and he would get ahead of me, so that I would say: Spare (some water for) me, spare (some water for) me; and she said that they had had sexual intercourse.” (Sahih Muslim)
The above four hadiths pove beyond doubt that a husband and wife can bath togetherin Islam and it is a Sunnah to do so. Allah (swt) says,
“Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth, when or how you will, and send before you for your ownselves” (Al-Quran-2:223)
There are weak and fabricated hadiths which state that looking at the wife’s private parts is haram. One such hadith is as follows,
Abbas and Abu Hurayrah according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “When any one of you has intercourse with his wife, let him not look at her private parts, because this causes blindness, and let him not speak, because this causes muteness.”( al-Mawdu’at by Ibn al-Jawzi, 2/271-272- Ibn Jawzi stated that this hadith is a fabricated hadith)
There are several weak and inauthentic hadiths which state that the prophet (sall) never looked at his wife, Aisha (rali)’s private and vice verse. The hadiths are as follows,
A'isha said, “I never looked at (or, I never saw) God’s Messenger’s private parts.” –This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah and Sheikh Albani graded it daif (weak)
A’isha said:
“I never looked at the private parts of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace).” (Or she said: “I never saw the private parts of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace).”-This hadith was narrated in Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 358 and is a weak narration due to its it’s narrator, Zubair `Aliza'I been weak and this hadith was not narrated directy from Aisha (rali). It was narrated from a slave of Aisha(rali).
Aishah said: "I never looked at (or I never saw) the private part of the Messenger of Allah."(Ibn Majah-This hadith is also weak and one of the narrators Abu Bakr also know as Ibn Abu Shaibah said: "Abu Nu'aim would say: '(From) a freed female slave of 'Aisha (rali) and it wasn’t directly narrated from her. None of the hadiths which state that prophet (sal) never saw Aisha (rali)’s private is weak and the hadiths are not at all authentic.
